Dr Ann Lucas grew up on a farm in Chester County, Pennsylvania and always wanted to be a veterinarian, albeit a large animal one. After attending Reed College in Portland, Oregon, she graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1975 and completed both her one-year internship and medical residency programs at the Animal Medical Hospital in 1980 when it was owned by Dr. Lewis Berman and purchased the practice in 1982.
In these 40 years, Dr. Lucas has had the privilege of working with long-standing clients and generations of beloved pets. She is also blessed with her own family- she married Dr. Bill Mesnard, a rheumatologist, in 1984, and they have three grown children. They live in rural New Jersey with their domestic (albeit occasionally wild) rescue animals.
Dr. Kristin Kutscher joined Washington Square Animal Hospital as an associate in 2002, having started out as a client years earlier. She loves the diverse and loyal clientele who come to the practice, as well as the warm and supportive community that has been both her home and workplace.
Dr. Kutscher graduated from Barnard College, Columbia University with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania. It seemed only natural to return to Washington Square as a general practitioner, as she had spent summers there as a veterinary nurse. She has a special interest in veterinary geriatric medicine.
Dr. Kutscher lives in the village with her daughter and asthmatic cat, Leona. She loves taking advantage of all the cultural offerings available in New York City and gives her time to numerous animal-welfare causes. She also works to benefit Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, including the Annual Light the Night Walk as leader of Team Mario New York City, in memory of her late husband.
